    Room With A View

My new client place where I am currently stationed now is in town. Besides the obvious advantage of being in the city and the MRT station is within walking distance, it has a very nice view of the port, the ongoing construction of the integrated resort and the superb view of the sea. On a clear day, it is even possible to view the whole stretch of East Coast beach and pick up buildings in Changi.

When I need to feel better during work, all I have to do is to look out of the window, and my spirits will soar a bit. I think I finally realise the importance of having a nice view, regardless of whether it is at work or at home.

    Hotel Beds

Back from Bangkok. The trip to HongKong has been postponed. Looking on the positive side of things, at least I can save some money.

I do not know why recently I cannot seem to be able to sleep properly in hotels. I never have a problem with sleeping anywhere, as long as it was on a nice bed, with airconditioning and no mosquitoes, but recently I am having problems sleeping on hotel beds. When I was in Gold Coast, I had a hard time falling asleep and even when I am asleep, I tend to wake up a lot of times throughout the night. It happened again in Bangkok, it was a superb five class hotel, with a superb room and bed. It was very quiet due to the soundproof walls, yet I could not sleep well. I wake up each day feeling tired and suffering from a headache.

With more traveling planned, this is one problem that I must find a solution to.

    Flying and Bakuteh

While I will be flying to Bangkok and Hong Kong for work in the next two weeks, one is flying to US to work for three years and another one is flying to somewhere in Indonesia for diving. I also just found out someone I know will be flying to Japan in September to work for a year.

I wonder who else is flying.

Bakuteh for supper. Almost forgotten how good it feels.

    Working Trips

So it is confirmed then. Two trips next month, the first one to Bangkok followed by HongKong shortly after. The trip to Bangkok will be stressful, as I will be setting up everything myself. And talking in a trade show, never done that before.

The trip to HongKong will be better, just be there to listen to a presentation and meet the big boss. Thinking of extending my trip for a few more days.

    Exciting and stressful month ahead.

    Climbing Up The Ladder

After coming back from my holiday, it was my colleagues turn to go on theirs. And this week, it was my boss’s turn. I had to take over much of his job for this week.

I find myself juggling between 2 projects, not to mentioned having a client presentation in between. After coming home from work, the first thing I do is to turn on my notebook to keep an eye on my office emails throughout the whole night.

I was complaining to anyone who care to listen, but surprisingly, I do not seem to really mind actually. Perhaps I know deep down inside that eventually I will have to shoulder all these responsibilities, and it is something that I have to aim towards.

Climbing up the ladder, one small step at a time.

Day Becomes Night, Night Becomes Day

I was perpetually in a daze during the past week. Juggling two projects at the same time, I find myself working till the sun rises, then sleep while the sun was in the sky, then back to work again, and repeat.

Day becomes night, night becomes day. How long more can I last?

Looking Back at the Past Week

It was a pretty eventful week, to say the least.

The initial results from my treadmill test, which I nearly died after lack of exercise for so long, was pretty good. The doctor there said it is negative so far, which I responded, while my tongue was touching the floor, is negative good or is negative not good. He was almost laughing when he said negative means that none of my major heart blood veins were blocked. Now that is one load off my mind, though they still need to prepare a report in a week’s time for me.

Next was the start of the new project. Finding myself caught in the production rollout period of the previous project, and the initial period of the new project where I have to conduct a 4 days business workshop, I was putting in 15 to 18 hours of work. Surprisingly, I did not drop dead which lead me to wonder what happened. After giving it some thoughts, the following might explain why :

    • I am a workaholic now.
    • I am used to it.
    • I am enjoying what I am doing

I am leaning towards the first possible reason.

Another milestone was reached when the 4 days workshop was conducted mainly to a non-Asian audience, which was something that I have never done before. It was stressful at first, and I had to keep reminding myself to watch my spoken English, but other than that, the workshop went pretty well.

And finally, I sort of felt that I earned the respect my colleagues who were working for me, who were now doing tasks requested by me willingly. I guess when you show you really take care of them, they will return in kind.

So all in all, a pretty eventful week. Looking ahead, dare I say, a vacation perhaps in May, new people hired who will work for me, and I am sure, more challenges.

    Next Year

The major project that I have been eagerly waiting for has been given the green light to proceed by the client. I also found out that I might not be based 100% overseas, but extensive travelling is confirmed next year. It was a piece of news that I needed to recharge myself. The past few months have been draining and I was almost reaching the breaking point.

Good way to rack up those frequent flyers mileage.
