    Dwarven Song About Old Wealth

    I was looking back at my old blog entries last year in December, and I came across my blog entry on the first release of the Hobbit trailer. I repost the words of the haunting ‘Dwarven Song About Old Wealth’. And I should really go watch this movie.

    Far over the misty mountains cold
    To dungeons deep and caverns old
    We must away ere break of day
    To seek the pale enchanted gold.
    The dwarves of yore made mightly spells,
    While hammers fell like ringing bells
    In places deep, where dark things sleep,
    In hollow halls beneath the fells.

    For ancient king and elvish lord
    There many a gleaming golden hoard
    They shaped and wrought, and light they caught
    To hide in gems on hilt of sward.
    On silver necklaces they strung
    The flowering stars, on crowns they hung
    The dragon-fire, in twisted wire
    They meshed the light of moon and sun.
    Far over the misty mountains cold
    To dungeouns deep and caverns old
    We must away, ere break of day,
    To claim our long-forgotten gold.

    Goblets they carved there for themselves
    And harps of gold; where no man delves
    There lay they long, and many a song
    Was sung unheard by men or elves.
    The pines were roaring on the height,
    (The pines were roaring on the height)
    The winds were moaning in the night,
    The fire was red, it flaming spread;
    (The fire was red, it flaming spread)
    The trees like torches blazed with light.
    The bells were ringing in the dale
    (The bells were ringing in the dale)
    And men looked up with faces pale;
    The dragon’s ire more fierce than fire
    (The dragon’s ire more fierce than fire)
    Laid low their towers and houses frail.

    The mountain smoked beneath the moon;
    (The mountain smoked beneath the moon)
    The dwarves, they heard the tramp of doom.
    They fled their hall to dying fall
    (They fled their hall to dying fall)
    Beneath his feet, beneath the moon.

    Far over the misty mountains grim
    To dungeons deep and caverns dim
    We must away, ere break of day,
    To win our harps and gold from him!

    The pines were roaring on the height,
    (The pines were roaring on the height)
    The winds were moaning in the night,
    The fire was red, it flaming spread;
    (The fire was red, it flaming spread)
    The trees like torches blazed with light.
    The bells were ringing in the dale
    (The bells were ringing in the dale)
    And men looked up with faces pale;
    The dragon’s ire more fierce than fire
    (The dragon’s ire more fierce than fire)
    Laid low their towers and houses frail.

    Colours

    I was quite disappointed with myself. The occasion will be perfect to take many photographs, but all the ones I took turned out pretty bad, except for this one. I really need to learn how to use this camera, which means I need to take more photographs.

    iPhone5

    iPhone5 was released in Singapore yesterday.

    But I am not getting one. From iPhone3G, to iPhone4 and current iPhone4S, I have been upgrading my phone each time Apple releases another new phone. In the process, I have queued up for hours to get it on day one, paid hundreds of dollars, all because I want to be one of the first few to get the latest phone.

    No more this time. I am going to get off the upgrade treadmill.

    No more upgrading to get the latest phones, iPads, gadgets. I will only change if there is a good reason, like when it is beyond repair and no longer working.

    LEGO & Lord of the Rings

    LEGO stand decoration at the London Toy Fair

    LEGO & Lord of the Rings = Please just take all my money already!

    Just found out that LEGO will be releasing LOTR sets and minifigs. Initially there will be 7 sets released in August:

    9469, Gandalf Arrives: 2 minifigs: Gandalf and Frodo, Gandalf on horse and cart with fireworks and snake in the back. I think the price was £9.99.

    9470, Shelob Attacks: 3 minifigs: Frodo, Samwise and Gollom! Gollum looked great, hunched over with movable arms, a bit like skeleton arms but different. Shelob the spider looks fantastic and scary!

    9471, Uruk-Hai Army: 6 minifigs: Eomer, Rohan soldier and 4 Urak-Hai. The set consists of a small section of wall, a horse with moving legs and a small siege machine. The wall can be joined to the Helms Deep castle, apparently, so this will make a great battle pack to extend the castle and build your armies.

    9472, Attack on Weathertop: 5 minifigs: Frodo, Merry, Aragorn and two Ringwaiths on horseback. The set builds a small section of Weathertop with spiral staircase and ruins at the top.

    9473, The Mines of Moria: 7 minifigs: Pippin, Gimli, Legolas, Boromir, a cave troll and two Moria orcs. The set builds a selection of sub-assemblies for mine walls, doors, pedestals etc.

    9474, The Battle of Helm’s Deep: 8 minifigs: Gimli, King Theoden, Haldir, Aragorn and 4 Urak-Hai warriors. The castle itself is fairly substantial, complete with the ‘side door’ used to gain entry

    9476, The Orc Forge: 5 orcs with a forge, various metalworking tools and weapons.

    More about these sets can be found here. It seems like I have to get all the 7 sets in order to collect the entire Fellowship of the Ring minifigs. Well, like I said, just take all my money already!
