It is with great significance when I read about Cowboy Caleb’s entry on traveling overseas alone to work.
With the recent trips to Bangkok, and the forthcoming trips next year to KL and Bangkok, I can foresee that I will have the same feeling as him, feeling lonely in the hotel room, wondering what I will do next. I have been fortunate so far, I do not travel alone yet. And nights are spent downloading the whole day’s office emails and replying them.
There was a time not too long ago that I actually love to travel aboard to work. Maybe I am really getting old.

I like being alone but it really is very hard sometimes – plus I don’t have internet where I am staying in Batam. No Skype, expensive IDD calls. I often spend time staring at the walls and ceiling and listen to the traffic outside. I sleep early (10pm?) and wake at 5am to do my work. I don’t think we are meant to work alone all the way, we always need somebody to bitch to, someone to encourage us, a sounding board for our ideas. Or simply someone to take turns doing the dinner or groceries run. An MP3 player, DS or PSP won’t be the same thing.
You’re not old, just not meant to be alone, like anyone else.
Enjoy travelling Asia though, I still love Asia! Sawadee!

Agree. I think we are just not meant to be alone.
Having a MP3 player, PSP etc can only occupy your mind for so long before you long to have someone to hug, someone to talk your hands, someone to talk to you, someone for you to look at, and a warm body beside you when you sleep.
